LIMIT / why the thickness limit

Why 15 si

The product has a clearly defined thickness range: it can only be used in thin articles up to 15 si (0.15 mm); articles thicker than 15 si cannot reach the best state of the flame-retardant synergy, so do not use it in over-spec thickness products.

SEC.02 / PERFORMANCE

Performance features

Four performance features plus one self-extinguishing proof ring.

01

Halogen-free and eco-friendly

Halogen-free; when burning it does not release toxic hydrogen halide gases, produces little smoke and meets environmental and safety requirements, making it suitable for sensitive contact uses such as food and electronic components.

02

Efficient flame retardancy

At a dosage of 10%–20% it brings thin PE articles to UL94 V-2 (film type) or GB/T 2408-2008 FV-2 (adjusted by thickness), effectively inhibiting flame spread and reducing the risk of ignition from dripping.

03

Excellent compatibility

Good compatibility with PE resins (LDPE, LLDPE and the like) and low migration during film processing, with no effect on transparency, softness or heat-sealing performance, keeping the original PE feel.

04

Processing durability

Its heat resistance matches PE processing temperatures (150–200℃); it does not readily decompose in extrusion, blown-film and similar processes and delivers stable flame retardancy.

V-2 self-extinguishing proof ring (looping demo)

After a film specimen is ignited the flame spread is suppressed and it self-extinguishes once the source is removed — effectively inhibiting flame spread and reducing the risk of ignition from dripping; corresponding ratings:

How to add

Mix this flame retardant thoroughly with PE pellets, then feed it directly into a blown-film or extrusion machine and process it into film after melt compounding to ensure even dispersion.

Processing conditions

Keep the processing temperature at 150–200℃ (the same as conventional PE film processing) and avoid excessive temperatures that would decompose the flame retardant.

Reverse guidance: the thinner the article, the higher the recommended dosage (towards the upper end of the 10–20% range); the optimum ratio can be determined by a small-scale test.

01Product positioning

R911 belongs to the halogen-free flame retardant category (official English category name Halogen-Free FR), Chinese name "PE Halogen-Free Flame Retardant R911", official catalog page model name "PE Hindered Amine Type Halogen-Free Flame Retardant". Product overview, verbatim: "This product is a halogen-free flame retardant developed specifically for polyethylene (PE) thin products (such as films, sheets, woven filaments, ultra-thin tubes, etc.), with hindered amine compounds as the core component, containing no halogen (chlorine, bromine, etc.), and compliant with environmental requirements and international regulations such as RoHS and REACH. Melt-incorporated into the PE matrix by internal addition, it can effectively improve the flame retardancy of PE thin products without significantly affecting film transparency or flexibility, and is suitable for scenarios requiring flame retardancy such as packaging films, agricultural films, tent films, and electronic insulating films." (Data source: product handbook / official product data)

Thickness threshold (the core usage boundary of this model): the page states explicitly, "This product has a clear applicable thickness range for products: it can only be used for thin products within 15 si (0.15 mm); for thick-walled products exceeding 15 si, the flame-retardant synergy mechanism cannot reach its optimal state, so do not apply it to products with out-of-spec thickness." This boundary comes from the official page wording; the same sentence is not found in the handbook body text and has been listed as pending verification. (Data source: official product data)

Mechanism (unified to a single version after correction according to the product specification on 2026-10-06): the handbook body text takes "hindered amine compounds — by capturing the free radicals generated during combustion, inhibiting the chain reaction, and interrupting the combustion process" as the main line of the mechanism, and records that they also possess a certain antioxidant property that delays the aging of PE materials; the official mechanism field has been corrected accordingly to "hindered amine free radical capture / chain reaction inhibition" (the original "phosphorus-nitrogen synergistic flame retardancy" was an unsourced value in the initial version and has been corrected). (Data source: product handbook / official product data)

Halogen-free statement (traced back verbatim to the source): the product name is "PE Halogen-Free Flame Retardant"; the overview records "contains no halogen (chlorine, bromine, etc.), compliant with environmental requirements and international regulations such as RoHS and REACH"; the performance features record "halogen-free and environmentally friendly: contains no halogen, does not release toxic hydrogen halide gas when burning, and has low smoke volume". This product is a halogen-free model, and the page's compliance wording is written in the halogen-free direction. (Data source: product handbook / official product data)

  • Thin-product main line — developed specifically for PE thin products: films, sheets, woven filaments, ultra-thin tubes, etc.; applicable thickness ≤ 15 si (0.15 mm).
  • Halogen-free and environmentally friendly — "contains no halogen, does not release toxic hydrogen halide gas when burning, and has low smoke volume", suitable for sensitive scenarios such as contact with food and electronic components; compliant with environmental requirements and international regulations such as RoHS and REACH (compliance statement; report numbers are not attached in the materials).
  • Compatibility and form retention (qualitative) — good compatibility with PE resins (LDPE, LLDPE, etc.); not prone to exudation during film processing; does not affect the transparency, flexibility, or heat-sealing performance of the products; maintains the original feel of PE.
  • Combined antioxidant property — the hindered amine system "also possesses a certain antioxidant property, delaying the aging of PE materials" (quantitative weathering data not provided in the materials).
  • Two usage paths (company technical proposition) — buy the flame retardant and compound it yourself (the route for this model: mix with PE pellets and feed directly into a blown film machine / extruder), or buy the masterbatch and add it directly (corresponding to the masterbatched route), choosing according to production line conditions and formulation freedom.
  • Recording note — the entry for this model is not accompanied by a complete table of physicochemical indicators (appearance, density, moisture, etc. are not listed); this page writes "not stated in the materials" as-is and does not invent values.

02Formulation system & mechanism of action

Two core components (handbook verbatim): hindered amine main body — "hindered amine compounds with tetramethylpiperidine derivatives as the core, which capture the free radicals generated during combustion, inhibit the chain reaction, interrupt the combustion process, and thereby achieve the flame-retardant effect, while also possessing a certain antioxidant property that delays the aging of PE materials"; synergistic dispersant — "a small amount of nonionic surfactant, which assists the hindered amine in dispersing uniformly in the PE melt, prevents agglomeration, ensures that the flame-retardant effect is uniformly distributed in thin products, and does not affect the processing fluidity of PE". (Data source: product handbook / official product data)

Mechanism field correction note (2026-10-06 per product specification): The official mechanism field originally recorded "phosphorus-nitrogen synergistic flame retardancy", while the words "phosphorus-nitrogen" are not recorded on this model's page in the handbook; according to the verbatim [Core Ingredients] in the product specification and the official detail page "CORE / hindered amine main body · captures free radicals", the field has been corrected to "hindered amine free radical capture / chain reaction inhibition", consistent with the handbook main line and no longer presented in parallel. (Data source: product handbook / official product data)

Mechanism boundary of the thickness threshold: for thick-walled products with a thickness exceeding 15 si (0.15 mm), "the flame-retardant synergy mechanism cannot reach its optimal state" — this is the direct reason this model limits its applicable range to thin products. Antioxidant property from the same source: the hindered amine structure provides antioxidant properties in addition to flame retardancy, delaying PE aging (qualitative statement). (Data source: product handbook / official product data)

  1. Internal addition — melt-incorporated into the PE matrix"After fully mixing this flame retardant with PE pellets, feed them directly into a blown film machine or extruder; after melt blending, process into film, ensuring uniform dispersion."
  2. Uniform dispersion — assisted by nonionic surfactantA small amount of nonionic surfactant assists the hindered amine in dispersing uniformly in the PE melt, prevents agglomeration, distributes the flame-retardant effect uniformly in thin products, and does not affect processing fluidity.
  3. Flame-retardant action — free radical capture / chain reaction inhibition (handbook main line)The hindered amine captures the free radicals generated during combustion, inhibits the chain reaction, and interrupts the combustion process (the mechanism field was corrected accordingly on 2026-10-06 according to the product specification, consistent with the handbook).
  4. Boundary — thin-product limitationApplicable thickness ≤ 15 si (0.15 mm); for products exceeding this thickness, the flame-retardant synergy mechanism cannot reach its optimal state.

08FAQ

What is the relationship between R911 and the masterbatch?

Two paths: R911 is a flame retardant (raw material) — after purchase, it is mixed with PE pellets and processed on your own; the masterbatch path is a semi-finished product with the flame retardant compounded with a carrier, etc., which can be added directly and formed in an integrated process. The official data separately records the correspondence of masterbatch grades using this grade, but the masterbatch formulation and process data are not disclosed, and are not expanded on this page.

Why is it limited to within 15 si?

Page wording: "For thick-walled products exceeding 15 si, the flame retardant enhancement mechanism cannot reach its optimal state." This boundary comes from the official page wording; the handbook body does not contain the same sentence, and this page marks it faithfully and lists it as pending verification.

What is the recommended addition amount? What is the denominator?

The recommended addition amount is 10%-20%, and the thinner the thickness, the more it is recommended to increase appropriately; the denominator wording is not specified in the source (whether relative to PE resin mass / total system mass is not indicated). The optimal ratio is determined specifically through small-sample testing.

What level of flame retardant rating can be achieved?

The source records "UL94 V-2 rating (film type) or the FV-2 flame retardant standard in GB/T 2408-2008 (adjusted according to thickness)". Test specimens, thickness, and report numbers are not recorded in the source.

Does it contain halogen? Does it have environmental certification?

This product does not contain halogens (chlorine, bromine, etc.), and does not release toxic hydrogen halide gas when burned, with low smoke; the source records that it complies with environmental requirements and international regulations such as RoHS and REACH. The compliance declarations and report numbers are not attached in the source, and this page does not draft them on its behalf.

Packaging and shelf life?

Packaging is 25 kg bags, PE double-layer bag; shelf life is 12 months (the starting point of calculation and the validity period after opening are not given in the source).
